Through a competitive tender process, the tender has been awarded to the Ontec and Karebo JV to execute this important project on behalf of the City of Cape Town.
The Ontec Karebo JV
Ontec and Karebo have had collaborative engagements for several years, in exploring multiple opportunities to deliver best in class utility and resource management solutions.
Both companies share a long history, as Karebo was a shareholder in Itron, prior to the consortium of Ontec shareholders. Itron is one of the largest smart metering companies in the world and Ontec SA was previously known as Itron SA.

Who is Karebo?
The Karebo Group comprises Karebo Engineering and Karebo Lighting as the two main contracting entities. Karebo has extensive experience developing, managing, and rolling out large-scale projects – especially Demand Side Management Projects. Karebo has been involved with Demand Side Management Programs since 1999.
